For this Sponge Chat, I was lucky enough to sit down with ELT teacher, trainer, writer and graphic facilitator, Emily Bryson. You’ve probably come across Emily’s stuff either in your classrooms, at conferences, simply through browsing the web, or looking at her blog – she is everywhere! More importantly though, her story behind how she got to being in all these different places is really interesting, and she was kind enough to share her story with me.
As usual we touched on Emily’s background and then looked at her motivations for moving into teacher training and materials writing. Emily also spoke about some of the things she needs to take into consideration being freelance and looking for work.
Emily was one of the many talented authors to be part of the National Geographic Voices course book series, which is out now. She has also just started a course on graphic facilitation, which you can find more about here. If you’d like to find out more about Emily or her teacher training, writing, and online courses, you can do so here.
As always, there were some book recommendations. These are Emily’s:
- ALL, yes, ALL the ELT Teacher 2 Writer books.
- Teaching English Grammar – Scrivener
- Teaching English as a Lingua Franca: The Journey from EFL to ELF – Kiczkowiak and Lowe
- Successful International Communication – Chia Suan Chong,
Remember to watch on YouTube or to listen on Spotify. And, if you like this Sponge Chat, please let me know! A comment, a like, a smiley face – it’s all really appreciated 🙂
