Within the world of TBLT, Martin East is one of the most recognisable names. His work spans decades (and numerous articles, books, conferences, etc.), and he has been involved in both TBLT and second language teacher education for much of that time. As an advocate of TBLT myself, I felt quite lucky to have the chance to sit down and pick Martin’s brain on TBLT topics and his opinions regarding both the implementation of TBLT and the training of teachers who will be implementing TBLT. As usual, I learnt a lot and had a great time – I hope that you also have the same experience (please let me know!).
Here are some of the links and recommendations that were mentioned in the chat:
- Martin East’s essential bookshelf: Task-based language teaching
- TBLT Language Learning Task Bank
- Martin’s Cambridge Element – Mediating Innovation through language teacher education (You can read my review here)
- Daniel O’Jackson’s Element – Task-based language teaching (You can read my review here)
- Martin’s brilliant book Foundational Principles of Task-Based Language Teaching (and it’s open access!)
- Peercy and Sharkey’s article Missing a S-STEP? How self-study of teacher education practice can support the language teacher education knowledge base
And, on a more personal note, I wish you all the best for the end of 2022. For me, 2022 has been a wonderful year (all things considered), but I am very much looking forward to seeing what 2023 brings 🙂
