This blog post is part of the Sponge Chats video series.
Ok, so this Sponge Chat is for all my TBLT people. Some time ago, I came across Lara Bryfonski’s brilliant article From task-based training to task-based instruction: Novice language teachers’ experiences and perspectives, and as I was reading I kept having those ‘yep’ moments. It was exactly what I was looking for at the time, and gave me a much greater insight into possible teacher education practices within TBLT. I didn’t stop there, though – I went a found Lara’s other work, and I came to the realisation that we both shared a strong passion for TBLT, and that I needed to get Lara on for a Sponge Chat!
So, what did we speak about? Well, loads of things, but mainly we focused on Lara experiences in certain teacher education projects that centred on TBLT. Lara was kind enough to share her thoughts on what teacher educators need to consider when implementing TBLT programmes, and we also had time to go into something that I am very passionate about – TBLT and young learners. And, of course, Lara had some brilliant recommendations for us:
- Lara and Alison Mackey’s The Art of Science of Language Teaching (Hopefully being released by the end of this year!)
- Rosemary Erlam and Constanza Tolosa’s Pedagogical Realities of Implementing Task-Based Language Teaching
- Alison Mackey’s Interaction, Feedback and Task Research in Second Language Learning: Methods and Design
- Cambridge Handbook of Task-Based Language Teaching
If you liked this Sponge Chat, then I’d recommend checking out my other chats with Martin East and Daniel Jackson.
