This blog post is part of the Sponge Chats video series.

The latest Sponge Chat featured ELT teacher training expert and author, Peter Lucantoni. His name might be familiar for two reasons – one, he’s been involved in the ELT for about 40 years, and two, I interviewed Matthew Ellman some time ago and we spoke about his and Peter’s book, From Teacher to Trainer. Peter was kind enough to give me an overview of the book in our chat, and for those out there looking to move into teacher training, or who might have ‘just arrived’, this books is going to be perfect for you.
In our chat, Peter shared some of his experiences with teacher training, and I got to pick his brain on what he thinks are some issues inherent with teacher training in our industry. He also offered some advice for teachers looking to move into teacher training. A particularly important takeaway for myself from this chat is the importance of managers providing opportunities for teachers to experiment with teacher training – whilst teachers need to be proactive in seeking teacher training opportunities, managers should really mediate this process where possible.
After you’ve listened to the Sponge Chat, I’d love to know your takeaways, so please let me know!
